  • KM#18, Rioja mint, medallic alignment. In the cataloger's experience, the 1825 Ra-CA is considerably scarcer than 1826 examples, which can be found on the market with persistent searching. This is an absolutely outstanding example -- a gorgeous "sunface" 2-soles bathed in drop-dead gorgeous, original powdery ash-grey with faint honey undertones. As always, the strike was imperfectly centered upon a very good flan, causing either side to favor north, yet those dentils that made it onto the flan are tack-sharp. While not a typical selection for the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award, it isn't often that a humble coin off of the Rioja mint is so well preserved despite much circulation, so the award seems most apropos.

  • Hammer: $3,500
  • Half Dollars-Franklin
  • Frosty white subjects collide with highly reflective fields throughout this complete run of NGC certified proof Franklin half-dollars that stretch from 1950 through 1963. Each and every example is a predominantly white specimen that offers a varying degree of gentle tones that cling to the peripheries. The first three coins (1950,51,52) are in older generation NGC holders with all of the remaining issues residing inside of “fatty” style holders. It is very seldom that you see this many older holder coins in a series of this caliber (ck).
