  • Collector Lots-Error Coins
  • A pair of error examples is unusual for modern U.S. coinage struck and inspected to a high level of quality control. Included are: 1991 1/oz. eagle "obverse struck thru", showing some curious dimples within the rays to Liberty's (observed) left. Included is a 1999 oz. silver eagle "reverse struck thru" featuring an outstanding lozenge-shaped anomaly through "E DOLL", with this side facing in the slab. Two coin lot.

  • Lot #418 - 1807 Bust Left NGC MS-62
  • Hammer: $11,500
  • Gold $5-Capped Bust to Left Half Eagle
  • Bass-Dannreuther-8, by far the more available of two die marriages dated 1807. Not only is this "the right" variety to pick for type purposes, but in a competent grade of MS-62, one doesn't miss out on much as compared to a mere point's upgrade. This example features acceptable, slightly muted luster, and an excellent strike despite lightly clashed dies. Near-brilliant canary-gold hue generally dominates except where a trace of greyish overtone shows, particularly on the portraits. The cataloger could find no evidence of adjustment marks -- bonus points for many type collectors.
