Lot #398 - 1842-C Large Date PCGS XF-45
Gold $5-Liberty Head Half Eagle
Large Date. 31 graded XF-45, 44 higher at PCGS. Identified by noticing that "2" in the date rests closer to the rim than to the bust and considered somewhat less rare than the small-date logotype. Very subtle greyish-canary deposits rest within the central area of all fields, and contrasts well with the underlying glint of Charlotte gold. While every single star except the first unexpectedly retains full dentilation, inevitable contact marks across the center of the portrait and spreading out left of the mintmark speak to the level of wear, as does the obvious loss of intricacy to circulation.

Quarter Dollars-Capped Bust
Browning-1, a common die-marriage for which the reverse die crack in the upper field may not be diagnostic, but it certainly narrows attribution down rapidly. A broad splash of cobalt iridescence spills over Liberty's portrait, reaching for the bright chartreuse-gold hues surrounding the stars. Magenta and Navy-blue powder the reverse with pleasing, vintage appeal. Utterly trivial contact marks appear to be all that defies gem expectations.

A pair of ram heads intersect at the top of this hinged bangle with a twisted cable design. The textured gold ram’s have rubies for eyes and small round diamond accents set in white gold at their necks. The bangle measures 32mm wide and tapers down to 8mm at the bottom.
