  • Lot #509 - 1873-CC NGC XF-45 (no line)
  • Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
  • Cheddars de Voirs Collection. Mintage: 22,410. Surprisingly strong luster remains prevalent on both sides, cheerfully illuminating bright dandelion-yellow and golden orange hues. The reverse plainly has claims to at least AU-50 all by itself. Typical abrasions scatter widely across either side, joined by a few bolder marks left of Liberty's mouth and flung right of the hair knot. Housed in a much older no-line holder, one can have confidence that this appealing, vibrant coin has remained unaltered for at least a few decades.

  • Lot #573 - 1927 PCGS MS-65+
  • Hammer: $2,400
  • Gold $20-Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle
  • Possibly taken off of slightly rusted dies, the fields display curiously appealing ultra-fine matte texture that only bolsters the amazing lustrous effect. The details are not quite as sharp as usual for 1927 as can be inferred by nominal merging at Liberty's toes and lower face, and one dark spot lands beside her knee.
