  • Gold $5-Liberty Head Half Eagle
  • Cheddars de Voirs Collection. 16 graded AU-53, 29 higher at NGC. In a down year for gold, like 1873, San Francisco struck only 31-thousand half-eagles, accounting for a low number of high-grade survivors. The casually worn surface here shows a few more tiny marks than typical, but ample luster brings the grade near the choice level. Attractive, subtle steely green and khaki-gold predominate.

  • US Currency-Treasury Notes, Large
  • Flat-out gorgeous for VF-35, the assigned grade seems ten points too low as viewed from the front. The back does display exactly the amount of creasing that requires a VF grade, yet this remains a highly attractive five.
