The 1885 is one of those key dates that seems highly available in low grades (think AG to VG), locatable in high grade (Choice BU and up), but about impossible to find in grades between those two extremes. Along comes this ideally graded AU-50 that boasts absolutely extraordinary, vintage medium-grey color and fair luster that should combine to push the high bids to the upper limit for the grade. This cool cocktail ring has an 8mm pink star sapphire (minor abrasions and imperfections on the surface of the stone) with a halo of round diamonds as well as a shield cut and bullet baguette on the side. Altogether the diamonds weigh an estimated 1.00 cttw, SI clarity, J-L color. Ring size 7, 6.2 dwt.
