Mintage figures are difficult to understand, even given the initial production of 3700 pieces, since it has long been rumored that hundreds were lost after having been disposed of in Manila Bay. Unusually white, almost to a chalky degree, the surface exhibits only glimmers of protected luster just within the obverse rims while the reverse continues to display a fair degree of cartwheel effect. While strongly detailed throughout, the eagle's breast and Liberty's major curls are noticeably flattened by circulation but broad details elsewhere are only briefly touched by wear.
