Gold $2.50-Liberty Head Quarter Eagle
Mintage: 2823. 10 graded XF-40, 26 higher at PCGS. Charlotte and Dahlonega have earned their reputations for rare emissions, but Philadelphia struck even fewer quarter-eagles in 1842, yet its specimens are actually valued lower than those of either southern mint. Here is an utterly delightful example sporting faintly mustard patina with greyish accents. Softness seen throughout derives from honest wear only, the only contact being a small nick in the reverse right field. Estimates suggest less than 60 examples of 1842 surviving through today.

Non-certified packs sell for three times face, but PCGS has rewarded this exquisitely preserved pack with the superb-gem grade level. Obviously, the monster-sized slab prevents enjoying the notes one-by-one but it's probably safe to assume that all are as perfectly centered as the facing and backing examples.

Recovered from the sunken Spanish galleon, the Santa Margarita this 8 Reale coin of Philip III is set into a 14K and sterling silver bezel. The bezel features a scene of a dolphin and a patch of seaweed. This does come with a certificate of authenticity from Mel Fishers’s Treasures, LLC. with a grade of four.
