  • Lot #452 - 1839 Head of 1838 NGC AU-58
  • Gold $10-Liberty Head Eagle
  • 27 graded AU-58, 13 higher at NGC. 1839/8, large letters, and variously referred to as the "head of 1838". Marvelously sharp overall for an 1830s gold piece, even if the obverse stars display only minimal sharpness. Only limited cartwheel effect is able to project through light mustard-gold patina yet very little actual wear affects major details. Delicate marks fall across both sides, joined by a few mentionable light rim dings on the reverse.

  • Lot #521 - 1898-S and 1899-S, both PCGS MS-62
  • Hammer: $4,900
  • Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
  • San Francisco gets essentially turn-of-the-century representation by this near-choice lot. Both coins flourish with the expected ravishing luster always seen for the era, and 1899-S adds in subtle pinkish sheen to boost the eye-appeal even further. Superb strikes for this two coin lot.
