Ga Ha Ha Consignment. HK-449, R.4 in silver. 23 graded MS-64, 10 higher at PCGS. Struck to commemorate opening of the Manila Mint in 1920, which was the first and only U.S. Branch mint located outside of the United States proper. Manila struck coinage from then until 1945 when it was destroyed during the closing days of World War II, after Japan had seized the mint for production since 1941. Blistering luster generates adequate eye-appeal, along with pleasing vintage patina for this hefty specimen.

Lot #550 - 1909-S NGC MS-66

13 graded MS-66, zero higher at NGC. Not so many years ago, 1909-S was considered rare in high grade until a hoard of better examples entered the market and helped increase the supply of gem examples. That said, this spectacular coin, showing exceptional copper-gold color, exceeds the gem grade by a full point at NGC, and places it smack dab into the discussion of finest-known pieces at that grading company (PCGS claims two higher graded examples).

Close inspection reveals superbly frosted surfaces and a lack of major marks; the cataloger suggests the one lone depression down the left edge of Liberty's gown may be the most noticeable. On the reverse, what appears at first to be a micro pinscratch could actually be an interesting strikethrough, which could then be of significant interest as a provenance marker for a coin this scarce. An exquisite, much better date within the series that would be almost impossible to beat in terms of quality.

It is not everyday you see a big, green diamond! While this one has been enhanced by artificial irradiation, it doesn’t mean it is any less spectacular looking! The center diamond measures 15x7.9x4.9 (limited to measuring in the mounting) and is estimated to weigh 3.50 ct., SI1 clarity, Bluish Green color, Stone Groups Laboratories Report # 240418A-SJ. There are four small round diamond accents on the side weighing approximately .15 cttw, SI clarity, H color. ring size 8, 5.0 dwt.
