Cheddars de Voirs Collection. A remarkable trio of California fractional gold, specifically 25-cent pieces, comprises this PCGS grouping. Included are: BG-727 (astonishingly high grade and blatantly prooflike), BG-728 (drenched in curiously lackluster greenish hue and unusually well struck), and BG-872 (rather outstanding citrus-gold on the obverse and lemon-yellow on the reverse with semi-prooflike reflectivity). A very reasonable strike goes beyond expectations for a date often found weak. New Orleans drastically cut production during 1893 to 1895 and churned out indifferently struck dollars. This one is above average in almost every regard except for the number of tiny abrasions that, in aggregate, limit the grade.
