Silver Dollar-Morgan
Lowball collecting has become a thing in recent years as the cost of high-grade better-date silver dollars goes through the roof. Most of these are better dates, listed with estimated [cataloger grades] as follows: 1878-CC (Good, superbly original, 1878-S (VG/ancient cleaning has recovered gunmetal hue), 1888-O VAM-4 "hot lips" (Good, interesting Kraft envelope toning pattern), 1890-CC (Fine/old PVC conserved), 1893-CC (VG/dipped surface has recovered some color), 1894-O (Good/strangely colored), 1899-O (Good, outstanding and unusually strong album color), 1900-O (Fine, darker ashy grey), 1903-S (VF/cleaned with sharpness somewhat close to XF), and 1923-D (VF, modest album tone). Ten coin lot.

Collectors of the series are not wont to underestimate the difficulty of locating a nice, very-good 1916-D dime with no problems. This example, slightly glossy on the obverse but showing rich dove-grey patina on the reverse, boasts strong, fully rims and portions of the vertical lines within the fasces. A very difficult example that clearly spent decades within an old Whitman (or similar) "thumb-buster" coin folder.

The center diamond measures 15x7.9x4.9 (limited to measuring in the mounting) and is estimated to weigh 3.50 ct., SI1 clarity, Bluish Green color, Stone Groups Laboratories Report # 240418A-SJ. There are four small round diamond accents on the side weighing approximately .15 cttw, SI clarity, H color. ring size 8, 5.0 dwt.
