Lot #741 - 1795 O-110 NGC XF-40
Half Dollars-Flowing Hair
Bachelor Simon Collection. Overton-110. Evidence of cracks on either side had not yet occurred when this splendidly detailed example fell off the minting press in the first half of 1795 when all flowing-hair examples were struck, but faint clash marks have already formed above the eagle's shoulder. For type collectors familiar with the challenges of finding a nice 1795, this example features boldly raised rims and dentilation, pleasantly original surface color and adjustment marks limited strictly to the very upper right reverse. A brief pinscratch left of the date blended into the patina decades ago and offers no distraction from steady eye-appeal.

Die Pair 2. Lines in the wheat stalks are separated and just as sharp as is necessary to validate the very-fine grade level. Very limited crumbles of greenish verdigris hide within select recesses and combine with overall wholesome leather-brown color to suggest an unusually original example.
