Benjamin J. Collection. Consistently well-produced within the series, this 1885-S projects the usual outrageous luster and frosted brilliance often seen. A very good strike doesn't meet perfection, while the presence of only limited tiny abrasions allow the cheek to appear virtually immaculate at arm's length.

Newcomb-9, a somewhat common die-marriage that can show up in various interesting die-states. The NGC insert covers up a portion of the rim where a small cud eventually develops but it isn't readily apparent in this instance. The glossy ebony-brown surface is actually not as unattractive as is often implied by the MS-61 numeric grade level, and neither side displays much by way of contact.
