  • Lot #870 - 1799 PCGS G-4
  • Hammer: $4,300
  • Large Cents-Draped Bust
  • Elm Then Almond Collection. Sheldon-189, a famously near-impossible key date to get straight-graded at any major grading service. Contrary to many low-grade pieces that have either a weak date or LIBERTY, this example features a nicely bold date, and LIBERTY has partial weakness only at the upper third of each letter. The coin was struck off of early dies, showing a small die chip between "E" of ONE and "T" of CENT -- a worthy diagnostic as to authenticity. An amazingly nice surface for the grade given the utter lack of environmental effects aside from normal circulation.

  • Lot #866 - 1909-S VDB Lincoln PCGS F-15
  • Hammer: $751
  • Small Cents-Lincoln, Wheat
  • Wonderfully original and showing ideal olive-brown color with only slight thinning of patina on the details allowing sienna-orange to be seen. Wheat stalks display complete, uninterrupted lines and individually separated kernels. A delightful if somewhat low grade key cent.
