Mintage figures are difficult to understand, even given the initial production of 3700 pieces, since it has long been rumored that hundreds were lost after having been disposed of in Manila Bay. For the enthusiast used to the way bronze reacts with environmental effects, this is one outstanding beauty is it unquestionably glows with olive-gold and brown aspects. Clem Stevens Collection. Infused with outstanding penny-copper hue, one could not imagine a more ideal color for a flying eagle cent. The dies, polished not long before striking, could not bring out every possible detail but there are no overly weak areas. One moderate nick above the eagle is the only abrasion worth mentioning.
