Included are: 1879-O (very good strike over exquisite, white fine-textured matte frost surfaces), 1897-S (astounding windmill energy on pure-white mint frost), and 1904 (another very good strike but the cheek disturbed by a number of tiny bagmarks). Gold $3-Indian Princess Head
Scott Laiter Collection. Mintage: 1500. 39 graded MS-61, 72 higher at NGC. With a minuscule commercial emission plus 76 proof strikings, one need not wonder why the 1882 tends to be beautifully produced, exemplified by the somewhat semi-prooflike qualities seen here. Bag storage may have imparted friction across the highpoints and into the fields yet one can readily see flashy texture protected between peripheral letters. Powerfully struck and showing richer orange accents against copper-golden hue.
