  • Lot #691 - 1901 CACG MS-61
  • Hammer: $4,300
  • Silver Dollar-Morgan
  • The 1901 suffers a double whammy of extensive circulation and mediocre production such that even mint-state pieces rarely show up "nice". All in all, at MS-61, this is a decent example that manages some noticeable windmill effect. Plentiful bagmarks scatter about, but none is individually overly intrusive on the eye. To its credit, nicer toning has evolved, starting with a nice mixture sea-blue, magenta-orange and rose at the rims and passing into predominant coral-rose nearer the centers.

The design of the piece is mostly original with a slight twist on modernism. The turquoise used in the making appears to be from the Cripple Creek mine. Condition is very nice for its age with a vintage patina to the metal. Unsigned piece so tribal affiliation is unknown. Length 28”, 5.78 troy ounces.
