Quarter Dollars-Standing Liberty
101st Airborne Collection. A group of Standing Liberty quarters was recently extracted from the consignor's Dansco collection, as all the other pieces are circulated. Included are: 1917-D type-2 (MS-62 and extremely original toning that looks much like mint-set patina), 1919 (UNC/FH but showing hazy surfaces), 1925 (Ch BU), 1926-D (UNC but not well struck and showing album color), and 1928 (Ch BU/FH and with attractive turquoise iridescence clinging to the devices. Doctor Drew Collection. Sheldon-24 "apple cheek", a common die-marriage that always shows light die rust from the bottom of the neck into the date area. Cataloger's grade: [XF-40] takes into account the late die state V, for which a radial die crack crosses over "L" in LIBERTY. Marvelous Hershey-brown adorns the entire surface, yielding to only the slightest ashy texture on the high points, especially the highly rounded cheek evoked by the "apple cheek" nickname. Shallow detail at ENT on the reverse is characteristic of the die state and not due to circulation. Not known to many collectors is that Sheldon's father created the name for S-24.
