Early United States mint sets are among the most difficult items to find in their original condition and packaging. There are five such issues here that includes a 1949, a 1951, a 1952, a 1954, and a 1957. Each of these are still in their original cardboard sleeves and envelopes as well. Wispy and dusty tones cling to all of the surfaces of each issue within each set lending even further evidence to these particular set’s originality. 134 graded MS-64, 32 higher at NGC. Long recognized as a strike-rarity within the series, one might not be aware of that reputation when examining only this boldly defined and cleanly struck example. Excellent definition down the Indian's braid, across the top of his head and an unusually sharp horn and tail (for the date) all speak to the primary reason a specialist will want to pursue this nickel. That said, the cataloger suspects the surface has been coated with a thin layer of protectant which creates a slightly glossy effect.
