  • Lot #513 - 1883-CC PCGS AU-53
  • Hammer: $5,250
  • Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
  • Mintage: 12,000. 27 graded AU-53, 44 higher at PCGS. Somewhat lustrous despite seven points of circulation, this double-eagle clearly started out with brilliant qualities rather than the semi-prooflike character often seen. Richer orange hues layer over nicely struck devices, and only expectant circulation marks show throughout; there are no singularly mentionable abrasions.

  • Lemonade Stand Collection. KM#551.2 Madrid mint, Joseph Napoleon. Assayers Antonio Rafael Narváez and Isidoro Ramos del Manzano. With the cost of UNC examples reaching thousands of dollars, a bright and mostly lustrous Choice AU example like this will be more than suitable for many collectors. Adjustment marks enter the rim area at 7:00 of the reverse.
