Two love tokens on $3 gold pieces.
New World Estate. The 3-dollar denomination provides an unusual and quite scarce backdrop for a pair of love tokens, both rendered in pleasing artistic fashion. These have each been looped and given...
498The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$230.00
Seven Exonumia Pieces.
New World Estate. Cool stuff has been relegated to this septet and should attract some attention from the exonumia collectors among us (you know who you are). We list a pair of Civil War tokens and...
499The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$800.00
Engraved 1889 dollar, National Silver Convention 1889 St. Louis.
New World Estate. 1889 witnessed the first National Silver Convention, and it took place in St. Louis, MO, from November 26 through 28. The engraved legends on this 1889 dollar appear to mark the...
500The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$310.00
Hobo engraving on a 1914 nickel.
Collector appeal: "B-" in our opinion, Bo Hughes per consignor and provenance (ex-FUN 1/7/95:13). An Amish motif includes strandlike hair, but the cap shows only trivial embellishment. A little dark...
501The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$75.00
Hobo engraving on a 1913 nickel, ex-ANA Museum.
Collector appeal: "C" in our opinion, unknown artist. The beard has been fully rendered, but the cap has been rather crudely outlined, and the left field appears to have been punched, causing...
502The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$55.00
Hobo engraving on a circa 1930 nickel, ex-ANA Museum.
Collector appeal: "C" in our opinion, unknown artist. This may be an interrupted work in progress, as the texture basically flows in only one direction at the beard. The brim of hat appears to have...
503The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$625.00
Hobo engraving on a 1920 nickel, OHNS certificate.
Collector appeal: "A-" in our opinion, Bo Hughes (probably). OHNS suggest "above average" workmanship, which is for sure the case. The rabbi motif was likely carved between 1959 and 1964 per the...
504The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$390.00
Hobo engraving on a 1914 nickel.
Collector appeal: "B-" in our opinion. A full beard of ethnic appearance has been engraved and resonates with Bo Hughes' handiwork.
505The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$180.00
Hobo engraving on a 1935 nickel.
Collector appeal: "B" in our opinion, unknown artist. The same texture was used for both hat and beard, perhaps representing a minor artistic shortcut, but the handiwork was performed with at least...
506The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$400.00
Hobo engraving on a 1916-D quarter, OHNS certificate.
Collector appeal: "A-" in our opinion, unknown artist. OHNS suggest quality this is "above average", but the key here is just how cool a hobo engraving is on a Barber quarter, especially in that it...
507The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$2,500.00
Hobo engraving on both sides of a 1913 nickel, OHNS certificate.
Collector appeal: "A+" in our opinion. Probably the most unusual item ever to earn the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice award, as this is a hobo engraving on a 1913 nickel that races right past the...

468The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$380.00
1896 Bryan Dollar (HK-781), uniface.
